  1. The use of color communicates aspects of the story being told in all sorts of ways. People watching can tell where the characters are in the story as well as what is going on. Color even though it can be overlooked more times than not, is a basic obvious way to tell basic information from. Color communicates emotion information as well as physical.

  2. Color can be used to communicate information to audiences in all kinds of ways. Color can also communicate emotional information. Certain cinematic conventions have developed which help with this, for example warm lighting to convey safety and cool lighting to suggest danger, but this is not always the case. Spielberg flipped the light=good/shadows=bad expectation on its head for E.T., and Ridley Scott changed all the normal colors rules for Black Hawk Down.
