Instructions for using Photoshop
1. Find an appropriate background for your slide (your image must be large enough not to pixelate)
2. FILE - OPEN to open your image into Photoshop
3. Change the size of your image to 1920 x 1080. Go to IMAGE - IMAGE SIZE and type in the correct dimensions and click OK. (make sure constrain proportions is not selected)
4. Add text to your background using the TEXT tool. (don't draw a text box, click and type)
5. Go to EDIT - TRANSFORM - SCALE to make your text as large as needed on the screen and CLICK ENTER. Change text color by highlighting the text and choose color near top of screen.
6. Go to LAYER - LAYER STYLE and add a drop shadow or stroke to the text to make it stand out from the background.
7. Add a logo if needed. FILE - OPEN to open your logo into Photoshop. (select all, edit copy, edit paste)8. Use your MAGIC WAND tool to remove any white areas. Click on the white part with the tool and click DELETE. Or, use the erase tool to erase parts of the image you don't want.

Major Assignment #1

Assignment: To create a MUSIC VIDEO

How to get started:  Your video can be completed individually or you may work with a group of up to four. Your video can be on any topic as long as it is not dangerous or inappropriate to videotape. You may check out a camera from the Cyber Campus or library to use for making your video. You will have class time to edit your project. A sign up sheet is located outside the classroom door to borrow a camera. (NO SONGS WITH BAD LANGUAGE)

Grading: In order to receive full credit for your music video, it must include the following parts:
1.       Your video must be between 2 and 5 minutes long.
2.       It must include at least 2 titles that fade in and out or transition to the next clip.
3.       It must begin with a fade from black and end with a fade to black.
4.       It must include transitions other than a cut between clips.
5.       It must include at least 1 special effect from the video effects palette.
6.       It may include pictures, animation or other video (from the Internet or other sources), but it must include video that is shot by you or your group.

Trojan News Crew
Director – The director ensures that everyone is doing their job in a timely manner. He/she must decide whether or not another take is necessary for a particular part of Trojan News. Also, he/she must get everyone’s attention when it is time to record the show, directing the show with action and cut. The director is the “captain of the ship.”
Technical Director – The technical director is responsible for setting up the Tricaster, which is a live video production switcher. This person sets up the chroma key and adds a “liveset” for Trojan News. This person must also add backgrounds for each news segment and record the show to the internal hard drive and on tape.
Camera Operator – The camera operator is responsible for composing the necessary shots for Trojan News. The operator must know how to turn on the camera, operate the zoom and make sure that the camera is connected to the proper input on the Tricaster.
Audio Operator – The audio operator is responsible for setting up the microphones needed for Trojan News.  IF wireless microphones are used, this person must give each anchor a microphone, hook up the receiver to the Tricaster and adjust appropriate audio levels. IF the shotgun microphone is used, this person is responsible for hooking up the microphone to the Tricaster and holding it in the appropriate place for the anchors.
Teleprompter Operator – This person must load the script into the prompting software, Flip-Q. This person must also make sure that the prompter is turned on and operating properly, adjusting the font and speed as necessary during the show.
Anchors – The anchors sit in front of the camera and report the news. They must take care to speak clearly and enunciate all words. They must also remember to look into the camera after finishing their part of the script.
Studio Setup – This person must prepare the studio for recording Trojan News. They must make sure that all studio lights are turned on, the anchor chairs are in place and that the background is clear.
Scriptwriters – The scriptwriters will help prepare the written words for Trojan News.
Graphics – This person will use Adobe Photoshop to create the background slides needed for Trojan News.
